People’s Choice Awards 2012

The people have spoken, and their favorites in entertainment all came out dressed in their very best (or very worst) for the event hosted by The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco. Voted for by the people, this means there was an odd array of guests. Some winners were deserving (Bridesmaids!), and others make you shake your head at the public’s idea of quality entertainment (really, Adam Sandler, again? Did these people SEE Jack and Jill?) Keep reading for the fashion, the winners and more!

If there is one thing we know about the People’s Choice Awards, it’s this: it’s sort of a mess. We are often treated to a sub-par CBS TV actor promoting their sub-par show and giving an award to someone who hardly qualifies as a megastar (yet beats out four Harry Potter actors for Favorite Movie Star Under 25 —in this case, Chloe Moretz over Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson AND Tom Felton). The constant product placement ads and promos throughout the show are also terribly off putting—I think I now know more about CVS than I ever wished to, and I doubt stars are stockpiling Dr. Pepper-flavored lip balm before an awards show of any kind. All the same, (some of) the stars are there, present, accounted for, wearing their dresses and gowns. That much makes me happy.

Some of the fashion high points included (I’m sorry to say) Julianne Hough in a sparkly number that was all coverage in the front (a bit boxy, yes) and quite a bit of action (or lack of coverage) in the back (the back made the dress). I really don’t see her appeal, but liked her look overall. I am also sorry to say that I really liked the (demure for her) look Miley Cyrus had on the red carpet with her well-fitted David Koma dress with a peek-a-boo sheer panel in the center and some amazing sparkles on the bottom.

I am probably starting to sound bitter here, but another person I don’t adore, Lea Michele of GLEE, was actually lookin’ cute in a fringed white dress (she even took her little cousin to the show with her—she is growing on me a bit after many stories of her being a bit of a diva).

Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence (also star of the highly-anticipated series The Hunger Games) was rockin’ a very strange blue netted dress that kept you glancing to see if any of her bits were exposed (they weren’t). I don’t know if I enjoyed the attempt at originality or just plain hated it.

Done with her recovery process, tween favorite Demi Lovato appeared in two dresses that she should’ve kept in the closet. One was a horrid orange color and the other was one of those tragic monstrosities that is short in the front and long in the rear (no one can pull this off, in my humble opinion). The gorgeous Ashley Greene of the Twilight films showed up in an ill-fitting black leather and lace dress. When the flashbulbs of the photographers hit that dress, it was all kinds of wrong.

On separate notes, Kathy Griffin was wearing the best push-up bra ever and Katy Perry was MIA due to her recent divorce announcement.
